Educating Business Leaders in Addressing Tobacco in the Workplace Part 1: Workplace Tobacco Policy
July 21 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm| Free
The Wellness Council of Indiana, in cooperation with the Indiana State Department of Health, Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Commission, is introducing a four-part webinar series: Educating Business Leaders in Addressing Tobacco in the Workplace. This is the first webinar in the series.
Americans spend more than half of their non-sleeping time at work and many are at risk for some type of lung disease. Lung disease – including asthma and other chronic conditions, COPD and respiratory illnesses such as the flu and pneumonia – is one of the most common and costly health problems in the United States. We also know that smoking is a leading cause of lung cancer and other major health issues.
Employees who smoke impose significant excess costs on employers – an estimated $5,800 more annually than a non-smoking employee. This includes over $2,000 more in health care costs and over $3,500 more in lost productivity. Additional costs of smoking to employers include increased risk of occupational health hazards, fire and injury risk, and increased maintenance costs.
In this webinar, you will learn how you can create a safer and healthier workplace for your employees and see a significant savings in health care related costs by making small changes in your workplace environment and providing resources to employees to change behaviors and improve health. This webinar will cover:
- Benefits of a tobacco-free grounds policy
- Process of adopting a 100% tobacco-free grounds policy
- How to join the effort to make Indiana’s workforce healthier and more productive
