Board Member Spotlight

Dr. Jim Roberts, Superintendent, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation
Board Member, Wellness Council of Indiana

Wellness Council of Indiana (WCI): How long have you been a board member of the Wellness Council of Indiana?
Jim Roberts (JR): Two years

WCI: What do you enjoy most about the health and well-being field?
JR: I enjoy all aspects of the health and well-being field as I am constantly learning better ways to take care of myself, my family and my employees. I believe that we must first take care of our own health before we can take care of others. I also believe that modeling healthy behaviors has an impact on the health habits of those around me.

WCI: What is your prediction for the top health/well-being trend?
JR: I think health and well-being efforts directed at the mind will continue to evolve. From yoga to meditation to “brain enhancers” (nootropics or “mind change”), many of us are finding ways to reduce stress and think clearly.

WCI: Why do you think workplaces should invest in employee well-being?
JR: Investing in our employees’ well-being is cost effective and leads to increased productivity. My constant goal is to increase our staff member attendance rate; doing so definitely reduces our spending and increases our effectiveness.

WCI: What do you like to do in your free time?
JR: I like to read, listen to music and run.
